Salary Range: $70,000-75,000 + Benefits

Reports To: Senior Director, Program & Impact

Hybrid Work Policy:

Read Ahead recognizes that in-person work is required to achieve their mission moving forward and has adopted a hybrid work policy that allows the organization to continue their work with students and schools as safely as possible. The role will require to work in-person 2-3 days a week, do site visits periodically, and other essential job responsibilities determined by program needs and approved by the Senior Director, Program & Impact (SD,PI).

The Opportunity

The Senior Manager, Program & Impact will be responsible for ensuring program fidelity, managing school relationships, and leading program evaluation. This role will supervise three full-time Program Coordinators (PCs), overseeing a portfolio of four school partners.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management and Supervision

  • Leads program management, supporting PCs’ in school portfolio, monitoring progress on program engagement, expectations, and implementation

  • Acts as Read Ahead’s primary representative with portfolio of schools including all communications to school partners

  • Monitors and analyzes attendance data; supporting PC’s with brainstorming interventions based on subgroups

  • Collaborates with the SD,PI to evaluate design and program delivery within school portfolio; sharing best practices for culturally responsive approach

  • Launches and assess the BookNook pilot program in 2023

  • Assists with program curriculum and facilitation, troubleshooting frontline issues between partnering schools sites and mentor-mentees

  • Builds capacity within program team through coaching and feedback

  • Coordinates professional development of PCs based on interest, availability, and Read Ahead goals

Program Quality and Evaluation

  • Serves as expert of Read Ahead’s policies and procedures to ensure that all PCs consistently communicate organization-wide expectations

  • Holds stakeholders accountable to partnership agreement

  • Schedules in-person site visits at partner schools to conduct observations and provide feedback to PCs

  • Monitors successful implementation of Read Ahead platforms in program sessions including Epic and BookNook

  • Works with the SD, PI to gather monthly program data and supports in designing external program reports as needed

  • Drives organization-wide family engagement strategy including, but not limited to, outreach strategy during school year, Read Ahead open houses for prospective families, and marketing initiatives to promote Read Ahead programming

  • Works closely with SD,PI to align DEIB goals to program implementation at each school partner

Success in the Senior Manager, Program & Impact role will require a passion for Read Ahead’s mission, willingness to advance our DEIB goals, and a deep commitment to genuine learning and self-improvement for yourself and others. You must believe in executing all responsibilities with an anti-racist lens that centers student voices and culturally responsive family engagement. The ideal candidate will also being the following skills, attributes and experiences:

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofits, schools, or education organizations, including at least one year of management experience

  • Experience with after school programs or community school models

  • Background in recruitment, program implementation, program evaluation, and/or stakeholder management

  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks, manage operations, and remain highly organized

  • Comfort utilizing technology such as Google Workspace, Zoom, and softwares to manage projects and information

  • Strong ability to make strategic and tactical decisions using multiple data points

  • Experience engaging and motivating a team, leading to retention and clear outcomes for students

  • Experience building relationships with people representing diverse cultural backgrounds

  • (preferred) Experience serving New York public schools, families and communities or youth literacy/mentoring programs

The People

In this role you will report to the Senior Director, Program & Impact and supervise three full-time Program Coordinators Frequent collaborators will include the Director of Operations and the Senior Manager, Development and Communications.
